Great Shows start at Rehearsal
Balance Your Sound pt. 2

Balancing your sound is just that. Adjusting the volume of each instrument until the whole sound is not tipping right or left. Image a counter balancing scale, the kind you use to weigh sound molecules. Your vocal volume is the pivot point. Drums are usually centered in the sound so drums are somewhat apart of the pivot point too. Your goal is to keep the plain of sound from tipping right or left. Amazing enough when the band sound is balancing on the vocal, each instrument in the sound is so distinguishable. As a listener you can hear each player and I love being able to zoom in on a player during a live performance and listen to the notes they’re playing. Have you noticed when a band is out of balance you really can’t hear what any of the players are playing? It’s a wall of indistinguishable frequencies. In upcoming Blogs (
rehearsal tips) I’ll explain how to start each rehearsal off by balancing your sound.
