Southern California metal outfit Antagonist has completed work on their new album and has announced "World In Decline" as its title. The band recorded at Buzzbomb Studios in Orange, CA with producer Paul Miner (Terror, Thrice, Throwdown). Antagonist released "Exist," their Prosthetic Records debut in 2008, and had two previous full-lengths and several EPs.

Singer/guitarist Carlos Garcia commented on the forthcoming album: "We've just wrapped up the making of our new album with Paul Miner. We're super stoked on the finished product, and we hope everyone will feel the same! Paul was amazing to work with, he was very encouraging and super patient with us, and we're eternally grateful for that. And of course, he knows his way around the console. This is honestly the first album we've done that is an accurate representation of Antagonist's live sound, and it definitely showcases a more refined, aggressive sound. We're taking it back to the old school!"

Garcia also commented on the overall sound of "World In Decline": "'Exist' had a hopeful message of working together as humans towards a better future. The new album is about the realization that things will always be fucked up, people will always be selfish, and this world is going to end at any minute, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. People grow older and figure out that life doesn't get any easier and that our own selfishness, carelessness, and ignorance are at the core of our demise. So right now, that's where our heads are at, which will in turn no doubt lead to a much more aggressive and angry album."

Hothouse Studios is stoked to be part of the Antagonist family and we’ve been privy to the "World In Decline" preproduction music for a few months now and "World In Decline" is going be one of your favorite albums of 2010!

Antagonist Rehearses for
Whittier Daily News Story

I’ll have more news tomorrow, but our favorite sons Carlos, Matt, Paul and my good bud Lond from the band Antagonist are rehearsing and taking photos for an article to be written about them for the Whittier Daily News. Congratulations guys, main stream press. Wow!

The
Antagonist story is newsworthy. It’s a story of resiliency, solid musicianship, belief, success, failure, consistency, and most newsworthy is it’s a story about four young men who have done it with integrity and honesty. Hothouse Studios seconds that notion.

Place: Auditorium Sound Stage

What a Weekend
Last Weekend Was

It all started Friday night, September 26, 2008, after the Antagonist performance rehearsal in the auditorium showcase studio here at the Hothouse. Carlos, Paul and I were out front talking like always and Paul asked me if I would be the sound man for their CD release show on Saturday the 28th. Well I was honored and of course said yes because this is an important show for them. This isn’t just some ordinary CD release show. It’s for their debut album “Exist” on Prosthetic Records. This is enormous!

The show was held at the Masonic Temple in uptown Whittier and this room is known for being difficult to control sound in. It’s not like in the Hothouse where the studios are purposefully built to have great sound. So Stewart and I pieced together a PA system from his bands equipment and I happened to have an extra monitoring system lying around.

I felt confident with the equipment we had and the knowledge we’ve gained from operating the rehearsal studios that we were going to deliver a pro live sound for all seven of the bands. As a side note it was great to see 5 of the 7 bands performing at the show, rehearse at the Hothouse.

We set the front of house speakers, we set the monitor system, we positioned the microphones (vocals, drums and amps), we ran all the cable, we fired it up, we sound checked the systems and the PA was ready for the show.

Like I said to Stewart from the start, “we’ve been doing this day in and day out for the past 5 years at the studios and we understand how to set up and get the maximum amount of gain, before feedback out of our PA systems”.

Reign of Ruin took the stage, then Apathy in Discord, Enthral, Mirror of Dead Faces, The Funeral Pyre, Azusa and then ANTAGONIST!!!

The show was a massive success and all 7 of the bands were electrifying and lit up the crowd. It was gratifying when people in the crowd came up to us and said the PA sounds great, “We can actually hear the vocals”.

Equally as gratifying was when each band gave the Hothouse a shout out from the stage thanking us for delivering a pro sound. The vocalist especially loved the system since we had a slamming monitor system on stage for them. We knew then we had done our job.

This was our first gig in terms of the Hothouse crew and equipment being hired out to provide the sound system for a show and what a success it was.

I got to bed at 3am Sunday morning knowing Sunday night in the auditorium showcase studio a groundbreaking event was going to take place. Lots of complex technology involved.

Who’s in at the Hothouse:
Marva King & Antagonist

Practicing with the Pros

Well Hothouse readers, it is once again one of those nights when my hat comes off to the performers coming through our studio, this time to Will Clark (keyboard) of the smoothe jazz band "Surewill," and his new project backing R&B diva, Marva King.

Ms. King, a natural talent since the age of 4, has performed with such music legends as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Randy Jackson, and most recently the one and only artist currently known as Prince.

The band have been practicing all day, and let me tell you, if you want to know what tight sound sounds like, then you need to take a tip from Will, 'cause he and his crew are TIGHT. Their groove is so locked in and their volumes so under control that it isn't so much their sound rolling through the halls, but more the feel of their rythm permeating through the building that catches you and makes you (dare I say) wanna strut. Groooovy.

And Marva ... woo! .. Forgetaboutit! Talk about a pro-FESS-IO-Nal! King comes walking in, and after brief friendly greetings all around, gets right down to business. In 20 minutes, no less than three songs get knocked right on out of the park. Let me sum it all up in one little three-letter word: Pro.

Antagonize This

Also gracing us with their ever growing presence on the national scene, were local metal mavens, Antagonist. Fresh off their recent tour (if you can call 3 weeks later, "fresh") Carlos (voc/guit), Londie (drum), and Matt (guit) sans Paul (bass) rekindled their musical mission in the newly modeled Studio M, and let's just say they haven't lost a step. Here's to your continued success, fella's.

Antagonist “Where Dynasties Are Made Tour”

Our dear, old friends Matt, Lond, Carlos and Paul from the band Antagonist are hitting the road once again. The two and half week tour across the Southwest and West Coast is in support of their debut album for Prosthetic Records “Exist”, is due for a fall release.

We are extremely excited for the guys, because Antagonist is one of the first bands who began using Hothouse Rehearsal Studios, four years ago. That’s right Hothouse Studios is four years old. Wow.

During this time we’ve watch Matt, Lond, Carlos and Paul mature and work extremely hard toward realizing their career goals. Well, all the hard work, rehearsing, song writing and practice on their instruments has paid off.

Antagonist left their home town of Whittier, Ca with their Prosthetic Records label mates and fellow Southern Californians, Funeral Pyre on the Where Dynasties Are Made Tour this past Thursday July 10th. Go see the concert in your hometown. For tour dates and locations click

Antagonist signs Recording Agreement with Prosthetic Records

All of us in the Hothouse Rehearsal Community are very proud of and thrilled for Carlos, Mat, Paul and Lond of the band Antagonist. They just signed to Prosthetic Records. Hip Hip Hurray!!

Prosthetic Records is home to bands like, Lamb of God, Through The Eyes of The Dead, All That Remains, Gojira, Beneath The Massacre and Light This City. These are bands that I’ve heard the guys talk about and look up to for sometime and now for them to be part of the same awesome roster of artists on Prosthetic is quiet and honor for them.

Below is the official Press Release from Prosthetic Records.

Prosthetic Records signs Southern California's ANTAGONIST

Prosthetic Records is pleased to announce the signing of Southern California metal band ANTAGONIST. Earning their keep in the local and national scene since 1998, and with two prior full-lengths to their credit, ANTAGONIST has already logged time hit the road with the likes of Light This City, The Faceless, Winds of Plague, Silent Civilian, and fellow SoCal metallers The Funeral Pyre, among others.

The band's Prosthetic Records debut, set to be titled 'Exist,' will be produced by Fred Archambault (Avenged Sevenfold, The Confession, Deftones), and is the follow-up to 'An Envy of Innocence,' which saw a 2006 release via Dwell Records. Tentatively slated for a summer 2008 release, 'Exist' will be recorded starting March 1st. "We're very happy and excited to finally announce our signing with Prosthetic!" guitarist/vocalist Carlos Garcia says. "These guys have treated us like family since day one and they really believe in the music we're making. We're all very anxious to enter the studio and even more pumped to get out on the road and play all the new shit for everyone." In addition, the band has issued a video statement in reaction to the deal here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roozXijOlHM).

Live Rehearsal footage of ANTAGONIST playing clips from some of their new material, as well as prior material and live footage can be seen on the band's YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Antagonistmetal) and on the band's official MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/antagonist). ANTAGONIST plans on touring heavily after the recording of 'Exist,' and details on venues and cities will be available shortly.

"Though thrash has been back on the agenda these past few years, its latest exponents have rarely opted for the reined-in virtuosity of the vintage Bay Area sound, let alone transcended it. Southern Californian thrash quartet Antagonist occupy precisely this space." - Decibel magazine

"...An Envy Of Innocence is the result of serious hard work and determination, as these Whittier, California guys lash out aggressively in their bid to establish themselves as group who is worthy of attention, and support, no matter what conservative local political obstacles stand in their way." - Metal Review.com

"...their guitar work alone is resplendent and the solos are next to amazing." - Skyline Press

Why are bands using Hothouse Rehearsal? Here’s what they’re telling us. “The equipment always works”. “Has the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen in a rehearsal studio”. “The staff is super attentive.” “Best sounding and maintained rehearsal rooms.” But mostly they say it’s because the “Hothouse cares about the artist and their rehearsal”. You owe it to your band to come tour the hothouse facility and find out for yourself.
