Recently, OvaFlo Creations held auditions here at Hothouse studios. What an exciting event. 40 young and ambitious artists came through our doors and performed live in front of a panel of industry professionals in Studio A.
The panel consisted of Interscope A&R executive Gerardo Mejia, pka Rico Suave, the President of OvaFlo Creations Tee Cooley and her VP Corina Preece and the humble founder of Hothouse Studios and previous A&R executive with Capitol Records Richard Morales.
On a scale of 1 to 10 we scored each solo artist, vocalist and musical group. We looked for their talent in their vocal and instrument proficiency, their dance skills, stage presence, image, song writing and arrangement skills and an overall feeling of the act. With the vocalist and solo acts I always like to hear them sing one of their songs acapela. This helps me listen clearly to their voice and get a sense of their natural tempo and rhythm abilities. For the dancers I have them dance without music to again access their rhythm and tempo.
The auditions were held as a way for OvaFlo Creations to begin accessing the talent here in Los Angeles for future signing to their artist development company. Tee said “Richard this is just the first one, there are several more to follow.” I’ll keep you all updated.
