Why is Hothouse sponsoring a high school event? First, Hothouse Rehearsal Studios supports education for our young people and especially the great work being done at Troy. Secondly, Hothouse Studios was established to help our local talent achieve their goals. Thirdly, Hothouse Studios is a community business and supports the community through fund raising activities such as this.

Troy High School is the alma mater of Social Distortion and what great group will emerge from this year’s Battle of the Bands is anyone’s guess. Come on down to the show and take a look for yourself.

Troy High is well known for being one of the top 30 High Schools in the country, as well as having the #1 computer science program in the world, yes, the world. What is less known is that Troy has a stellar, absolutely second-to-none Special Education Department.

The teachers, staff, and administrators not only do what they can to help make high school the rewarding academic experience it should be, but they also give an enormous amount of their hearts and time to help give the students in the Special Ed program many social and recreational opportunities--dances, parties, camping trips, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, trips to San Diego things that typical high school kids take for granted.

In the past, the department was able to raise their own funds to pay for these adventures so that there was zero or minimal cost to students--many of whom are in foster care or group homes and would otherwise be unable
to attend--but the rules have changed and they are no longer able to
raise these funds themselves. The Troy ASB has graciously agreed to give the proceeds from the Battle of the Bands to the Special ED Dept.

If you are at all able, please come out and give your support.

Basic Winners of the
2009 Troy High School Battle of the Band
Receive their prize from Hothouse Studios a
Free video for their song Summer.

In partnership with John Easdale of Dramarama, Hothouse Studios was proud to sponsor the prizes for the 2009 Troy High Band of the Bands. A wood music band called Basic was the grand prize winner. Watch the video and you will understand why I say wood music. Their prize was a live multi-tracked audio recording and accompanying live video.

This music video finds the boys performing a beautiful tune titled Summer. The band members in Basic are bunch of fine young men; they are: Daniel Lee (electric guitar), Brian Moon (bass), Daniel Park (acoustic guitar and vocals) and John Zhang (acoustic guitar).

The video was produced by Hothouse Studio TV. Recorded LIVE in the auditorium at Hothouse Studios where music grows.

John Easdale with the band Dramarama was the judge and that is him saying drum roll please as he announces Basic the winner of the contest.

It’s Summer
The Heavyweights are at
Hothouse Rehearsal Studios

When summer rolls around some of our better known artists book time in the rehearsal facility. For example Ian Mitchell lead guitarist for the Bay City Rollers and his band Tommy (Keys), Billy (drums), George (guitar) and Billy (bass) were in yesterday working on some new songs for their tour this summer. Ian and the guys are always a load of fun. Those guys really know how to rehearse.

Tonight my good friend John Easdale and his band Dramarama are in studio M working on bringing a fill in guitarist for Pete up to speed. Pete is not able to perform in a show, so John’s neighbor is going to fill in. Pretty cool gig I’d say.

When you are at the Hothouse you never know who you may run into, an old friend or band mate, an esteemed artist, the wall or Richard. Keep on Rocking.
